The Korea Society 2026 Annual Gala

The Korea Society’s 2026 Annual Gala is the most prestigious event in the U.S.–Korea gathering in New York City each year, convening heads of state, Fortune 500 CEOs, cabinet officials, ambassadors, and cultural leaders under one roof to strengthen the alliance that shapes both nations. Applications Open: 10th Annual Sherman Family Emerging Scholar Award

Since 2017, the Korea Society has presented this annual award to stimulate and support the next generation of U.S. thought leadership on Korea. Presented to scholars in the U.S. from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds, the award has recognized pioneering and impactful scholarship in such fields as: architecture, political economy, political science, poetry, national identity, medical science, maritime conflict, and technology. Eligible candidates include Ph.D. candidates, junior professors (tenure and non-tenure track), researchers, and professionals.

Awardees will present an in-person lecture at The Korea Society before a broad audience, which will be live-streamed and recorded. They will also be provided with a $2,500 honorarium, roundtrip travel to New York City, plus hotel accommodations.

2026 Armistice Day Commemorative Reception

Policy director Jonathon Corrado, Consul General Sangho Kim, Brigadier General (Ret.) Chris Stockel, and distinguished veterans of the Korean War will come to speak about the profound sacrifice and contribution of U.S. and South Korean Veterans. This evening is dedicated to honoring the historic U.S.-Korea alliance and redouble our shared commitment to its future.

This workshop is ideal for learners who can read Hangul and understand basic Korean expressions.

Closing the Korea Discount: Capital Market Reform and the Macro Outlook

On Monday, June 1st, The Korea Society and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) hosted a panel discussion on South Korea's capital market reforms. South Korea is undertaking its most ambitious capital market reform in years—an agenda to strengthen corporate governance, expand investor protections, and unlock deeper access to global capital.

Keynote Speaker Namuh Rhee (Chairman of Korean Corporate Governance Forum), two senior representatives from the Bank of Korea, and two leading U.S. investment professionals discussed Korea's reforms, changing macro landscape, and future global investments. The discussion was moderated by Korea Finance Society President Mark Kim.

New Thinking on Korea's Aging, Shrinking Society with Professor Youngtae Cho

On Wednesday, June 10, we held a virtual program exploring new thinking on Korea’s aging, shrinking society with Dr. Youngtae Cho, Director of the Population Policy Research Center and professor of demography at the School of Public Health at Seoul National University (SNU). Professor Cho's research interests include Korea’s low fertility, its fundamental causes and policy reactions, Vietnam’s new population policy, business demography, and population profiling. He is best known for his "Population as a Determined Future" thesis, which argues that while demographic shifts are predictable and inevitable, society can mitigate their impact through strategic adaptation. The discussion is moderated by policy director Jonathan Corrado.

2026 Emerging Design Competition Final Pitch

On Friday, June 12, we held the final pitching competition of Startup Scene: Emerging Design Competition — the most aspiring moment of Startup Scene: Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow, a program initiative dedicated to empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs across the US and South Korean startup ecosystems. After a half-year journey from ideation to mentorship, our finalists will deliver a live pitch followed by a Q&A with the judging panel, showcasing ideas at the intersection of technology, design, and social impact that may very well shape tomorrow's economy. Critical Comparison: Sanctions on North Korea vs. Iran

On Wednesday, June 17, we held a discussion with Dr. Jonathan Brewer, Visiting Professor at King's College, London, on the differences, similarities, and trajectories of international sanctions on North Korea and Iran. In conversation with policy director Jonathan Corrado, Dr. Brewer discusses evolving UN Security Council sanctions, their utility within larger diplomatic frameworks, their implementation and circumvention, and North Korea and Iran's proliferation and financing strategies for their sanctioned programs. Dr. Brewer was Acting Coordinator of the UN Panel of Experts on North Korea and financial expert of the UN Panel on Iran. Watch the recording of this insightful discussion.
